Discussing gun violence, prevention and the role of the media, with the media

Tyrique Glasgow, at right, CEO of the Young Chances Foundation in Philadelphia, shares community perspectives on gun violence news reporting during a collaborative panel presentation we organized for the national Online News Association Conference in Philadelphia.

Glasgow is seated next to our director of research and Stoneleigh Foundation fellow Dr. Jessica Beard as well a Temple University journalism Prof. Yvonne Latty, director of the Logan Center for Urban Investigative Reporting and Mensah Dean, Philadelphia staff writer for The Trace. Moderator Sarah Glover, vice president of news & civic dialogue at WHYY in Philadelphia is standing at left.

The panel was titled Better Gun Violence Reporting: Lessons from the Ground in Philly and we have prepared a related resource page, including more information about each participant.

More than 80 conference attendees came to our panel while nearly 100 other conference attendees, local journalists, community leaders, researchers and supporters checked in for our Better Gun Violence Reporting Reception on the previous evening at Philadelphia’s historic Pen and Pencil press club.
